Old-Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream
Growing up in Arizona, all summer long, my dad would make us homemade ice cream of varying flavors to enjoy on hot days and hot evenings… (it’s hot there in the summer :-) He would use baby food to flavor the ice cream as well as fresh fruits and berries. My favorite was traditional vanilla. What can I say? The heart wants what the heart wants…
Ingredients: (makes 2 qts)
· 3 eggs
· 1 qt half and half
· 1 qt heavy cream
· 3/4 cup white sugar
· 3/4 cup brown sugar
· 1 1/2 tsp salt (kosher or sea)
· 2 1/2 tbsp vanilla
· 1 tsp almond extract
If using and old fashioned churn use plenty of ice and rock salt. Add more of both as it melts away.
If using an electric freezer use according to instructions.
Instructions:
· Mix all ingredients in a large bowl
· Wisk until sugars are dissolved into liquid (about 1-2 minutes)
· Fill the ice cream freezer according to its individual instructions
· Remove mixing paddle and set in freezer for at least 3 hrs. (Overnight is better)
Add any toppings you wish and Enjoy!!!
